What is the downtime associated with chemical peels?

The downtime can vary depending on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels generally have minimal downtime, with mild redness and peeling that typically resolve within a few days. Deeper peels may involve more significant redness, peeling, and temporary changes in skin pigmentation, with a recovery period of about one to two weeks. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you optimize healing and results.

How many chemical peel sessions are recommended?

The number of chemical peel sessions needed will depend on your skin condition, desired results, and the type of peel being performed. It is recommended to have 3 peels over 12 weeks to gain optimal results. Our team will create a personalized treatment plan to best address your unique needs. 

Are chemical peels safe for all skin types?

Chemical peels can be safely performed on various skin types and tones. However, a thorough assessment and consultation with our experts are essential to determine the most suitable peel and customize the treatment to your specific needs. We take your skin's unique characteristics into consideration to ensure optimal safety and efficacy.

What should I do before a chemical peel?

The following is suggested to minimize your risk:
  • Do not have facial hair waxed or lasered 48 hrs prior to treatment and avoid facial shaving 8 hrs before treatment.
  • Stop using retinoid products like tretinoin, Retin-A, adapalene, Differin, or retinol 1-3 days prior to your peel.
  • Stop using benzoyl peroxide acne treatments 1-3 days prior to your peel.
  • Please talk to your healthcare professional if you have had any recent procedures to confirm suitability.

What should I do after a chemical peel?

  • There is little to no downtime and you can resume normal activities immediately. However we advise you to avoid strenuous exercise or swimming for 24 hours after treatment.
  • We recommend using SkinBetter Science Alto Defense Antioxidant Serum twice daily after the peel as it soothes and calms the skin. 
  • We always recommend the use of sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above should be used daily. If you are under the sun for prolonged periods of time, sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least once every 2-4 hours.  
  • Do not use retinoids or retinol containing products for several days post treatment unless otherwise directed by your healthcare professional. Once your skin is no longer peeling or feel sensitive, you can resume your skincare routine.
  • ​Do not use other potentially irritating ingredients such as harsh exfoliating products that contain AHAs or BHAs for 5 days post treatment. 
  • Do not wax facial hair for at least 48hrs post treatment.

Q: What type of preconditioning is required?
The Perfect Derma Peel requires no preconditioning of the skin prior to treatment. Only those patients who use Accutane must stop usage (4) months prior to treatment in order to achieve desired results.

Q:  Does The Perfect Derma Peel burn?
The patient may feel a slight stinging or tingling sensation which will subside after 30-60 seconds. Numbing takes place once the first pass of The  Perfect Derma Peel solution is applied. A fan or cool breeze may be used for the comfort of the patient.

Q: How long will the application process take?
The Perfect Derma Peel application only takes 15 minutes to administer.

Q: How severe is the peeling and what is the duration of the peeling process?
The amount of peeling skin associated with The  Perfect Derma Peel is mainly a sloughing of thin sheets of epidermis skin that begins around day three and generally is completed by day six or seven.

Q: What will I look like during The  Perfect Derma Peel treatment process and post peel?
Immediately after the peel has been applied the skin will either appear red, like a sunburn, or darker. On day three, peeling will begin. The Perfect Derma Moisturizer will reduce the visibility of peeling by hydrating. By day six or seven the peeling process should be complete.

Q: Will my daily routine be affected after the treatment?
Normal activities may be resumed immediately post peel. We recommend avoiding heavy exercise and excessive sweating during the peeling process.

Q: Can make up be worn post peel?
The day the peel is applied the patient should not put any make up or other products on his or her face post peel. Make may be worn on day 2 of the peeling process.

Q: How many treatments are required?
The Perfect Derma Peel may be applied initially every four weeks if necessary. Thereafter, we recommend once every 3 – 6 months to maintain improved skin results, as well as to prevent further aging and environmental damage.

Q: Can The Perfect Derma Peel be applied to other parts of the body other than the face?
The face, neck, chest and hands are the most commonly applied areas. The Perfect Derma Peel can be applied to other areas of the body, but the process and the results will not necessarily be the same.

Q: Will The Perfect Derma Peel help improve acne and acne scars?
The Perfect Derma Peel formula was designed to help improve various problematic skin conditions, including acne. The Perfect Derma Peel helps minimize the damage and scarring that can result from acne. Glutathione helps increase cellular turnover thus reducing stubborn acne scars. A series of peels is required.

Depending on the severity of the scarring, a series of 3-4 peels spaced four weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. The number of treatments will also depend on how vigorously the layers are applied.

Skin will be more sensitive during the peeling process until the PH level is replenished.
