Acne Scar Treatments
Acne may not be a major source of anxiety anymore, but acne scars and pock marks from your teenage years may still cause your skin to look bumpy and uneven. There are different treatment methods to improve acne scars from the skin. The following are different modalities that our office uses to improve your acne scars:
You can schedule an appointment with us to see which treatment is best for you. Sometimes different modalities can be combined, such as alternating between laser and microneedling to achieve maximum benefit.
- Acne Scar Serum--a serum that will help improve mild scars and redness from acne. Schedule an appointment with us to get a prescription.
- Chemical Peels--we have chemical peels that improves both acne and acne scars.
- TCA CROSS Peel--using Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) for the Chemical Reconstruction Of Skin Scars (CROSS). This method is very effective for deep ice pick scars, and can be used in conjunction with laser resurfacing to improve acne scars.
- Microneedling--using a device with microneedles to create controlled skin injury that stimulates your body's healing mechanisms. The micro needling device uses very tiny needles to puncture the skin and create channels, or micro-wounds. These tiny wounds trigger the formation of new capillaries and the production of new collagen and elastin in your skin’s uppermost layer.
- Laser Acne Scar Treatment--our Laser is FDA approved to treat acne scars by stimulating collagen and elastin production, and reducing dark hyperpigmented scars.

FDA Approved Laser Acne Scar Treatment
How Does Laser Scar Removal Work?
Our Picosure laser is FDA approved to treat acne scars. It uses revolutionary picosecond laser technology to reach deep below the surface of the skin and target acne scar tissues. PressureWave laser pulses activate the body’s collagen and elastin production mechanisms and create new, healthy skin cells to replace laser-damaged areas and scar tissue. PicoSure laser scar removal does not harm the surrounding skin, giving you impressive results in very little time. Our laser treatments are safe for all skin types, including very light and very dark skin.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Depending on the severity of your acne scarring, treatments can vary from 1 to 8 or more sessions. You will notice an improvement after the first treatment, and you get better and better after each subsequent treatment. Mild to moderate scarring may take up to four treatments, and severe scarring may take up to 8 sessions. Your provider will explain the number of treatments you may need during your consultation. Sometimes microneedling and/or TCA Cross Peels can be combined with laser treatments for maximum benefits.
What to Expect During Laser Acne Scar Removal
Reducing the appearance of acne scars is fast, with most treatment sessions lasting about 30 minutes. Most scars will require four to eight sessions to improve. PicoSure laser scar removal is not too painful but a topical numbing cream is available to make you more comfortable. Our laser scar treatments have few side effects, which usually include some temporary redness and swelling at the treatment area. Patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure.
