Vitiligo is a skin condition which involves loss of melanin, the primary skin pigment, resulting in irregular white patches on the skin.

XTRAC treatments can minimize and, in many cases, even eliminate Vitligo depigmented patches. The XTRAC [308 nm] excimer laser delivers a targeted beam of UVB light and only the areas of skin affected by Vitiligo receive the laser energy.

Though the laser spot size measures only 18mm x 18mm, due to rapid exposure times, relatively large, discrete areas can be treated in just five to 10 minutes, which is much quicker than the duration of conventional phototherapy light sessions. WHO SHOULD CONSIDER THE XTRAC THERAPY?
Almost all patients with plaque psoriasis and vitiligo are candidates for the XTRAC Therapy. If you have mild, moderate or severe psoriasis or vitiligo, you should consider the XTRAC Therapy.

ON WHAT BODY AREAS CAN THE XTRAC THERAPY BE USED?
The XTRAC Therapy can be used on any plaque psoriasis or vitiligo regardless of location on the body. The XTRAC Therapy is excellent for hard to treat areas such as the scalp, knees or elbows.

IS THE XTRAC THERAPY SAFE TO USE ON CHILDREN?
Yes. XTRAC treatments have been performed on children as young as just a few years old.

IS THE XTRAC THERAPY SAFE TO USE ON PREGNANT WOMAN OR WOMEN WHO ARE NURSING?
Yes.

HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Most patients will begin to notice improvement in their psoriasis within 6  to 10 treatments, with marked improvement in 10 to 30 treatments. For severe cases, it may require more. Individual results will vary.
 
IS THERE ANY PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE XTRAC THERAPY?
No. Most patients feel no pain or discomfort during the XTRAC Therapy.

IS ANESTHESIA REQUIRED WITH THE THERAPY?
No. The XTRAC treatment is not painful. You will feel a warm sensation.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?
Treatments are relatively quick. The exact time depends on how many psoriasis or vitiligo areas are being treated with the XTRAC. Typically, patients can be in and out of the treatment room in 10 to 15 minutes.

HOW LONG WILL PSORIASIS CLEARING LAST? WHAT ABOUT VITILIGO?
Each patient is unique, but psoriasis sufferers who have experienced the XTRAC Therapy have found that relief can last for extended periods of time, typically 4 to 6 months or longer than other psoriasis treatments. For patients with vitiligo, once you achieve repigmentation, most of the time it should be permanent, but can vary from person to person.

IS THE XTRAC THERAPY COVERED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY?
All major insurance companies and Medicare provide coverage for the XTRAC laser treatments for psoriasis. Coverage is more variable for vitiligo treatment. We will request authorizations for treatment and let you know prior to your sessions whether it is a covered benefit or not.  For questions about insurance coverage and to verify your benefits, please contact us for an appointment.

HOW MUCH DOES THE THERAPY COST?
The XTRAC Therapy is covered by all major insurance companies and Medicare for psoriasis. If you are covered by insurance, your costs will typically be your standard co-pay or deductible costs. If you do not have insurance coverage, an XTRAC physician can discuss a cash payment plan.

HOW OFTEN IS THE XTRAC THERAPY GIVEN?
The XTRAC Therapy is performed two times per week in your physician's office. Your physician will discuss with you the best treatment program that fits your needs.

CAN I USE OTHER TREATMENTS ALONG WITH THE XTRAC THERAPY, SUCH AS TOPICALS OR BIOLOGICS?
An XTRAC Physician can define the best treatment protocol for you and whether the XTRAC Therapy should be used with other medications.
 
IS THE XTRAC THERAPY SAFER THAN OTHER TREATMENTS?
The XTRAC Therapy is extremely safe compared to other prescription treatments. The XTRAC Therapy does not expose your healthy skin to treatment. Also, there is no thinning of the skin as is common with topical medications. There are also none of the health risks such as tuberculosis reactivation and infection as associated with biologics and systemics.

Side Effects/Risks: XTRAC has none of the drawbacks often associated with other psoriasis treatments-such as premature aging of healthy skin, skin thinning, resistance to medication, or potential negative systemic side effects. Some patients, however, experience a reaction similar to sunburn or blistering at the site of the treated area and in some cases, an increase in pigmentation may occur.
